When Do SSI, Social Security and Food Stamps Come Out? Dates for Oct. 2026 to Jan. 2027

Pay days can move when the 1st or a Wednesday falls on a weekend or holiday. Original image created for CalculateBenefits.

SSI comes on the 1st of the month. Social Security comes on a Wednesday that matches your birthday. Food stamp dates depend on your state.

Some people get Social Security on the 3rd instead. If a pay day falls on a weekend or holiday, SSA pays on the business day before. The dates below come from SSA's own calendars for 2026 and 2027.

Last checked: October 6, 2026. We update this page each month. CalculateBenefits is not SSA, VA, or any part of the government.

Which Wednesday is my Social Security day?

SSA uses the day of the month you were born. It is not about the month or year. If you get benefits on a spouse's or parent's work record, SSA usually goes by that worker's birthday.

There is one big exception. Social Security comes on the 3rd if you got it before May 1997. It also comes on the 3rd if you get both Social Security and SSI. In that case, SSI comes on the 1st.

What are the pay dates from October 2026 to January 2027?

Find your month. Then find your group. Each date is on SSA's printed calendar.

October 2026

Oct. 3 is a Saturday. That is why the 3rd group is paid on Friday, Oct. 2.

November 2026

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, a federal holiday. So people born on the 1st to the 10th are paid a day early, on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

December 2026

January 2027

Jan. 1 is New Year's Day. So January SSI comes on Thursday, Dec. 31. Jan. 3 is a Sunday, and Jan. 2 is a Saturday. So the January payment for the 3rd group also comes on Dec. 31.

You can see SSA's full 2026 calendar and 2027 calendar.

Why did I get two SSI payments this month?

It happens when the 1st of next month falls on a weekend or holiday. SSA then pays SSI on the last business day before the 1st. So two payments land in one month.

SSA says the second one is not a double payment. It is next month's SSI, paid early. You do not need to call SSA to report it.

This happens twice in the dates above:

Plan for the gap. The next month will have no SSI payment dated in it. Make that early money last until the following 1st.

Not sure if you get SSI, Social Security, or both? Read our guide to SSI and Social Security. If you get a disability check, see our SSDI and SSI guide.

When do VA payments come?

VA pays at the start of each month. That money is for the month before. For example, money for October comes at the start of November.

When the 1st falls on a weekend or holiday, the law tells VA to pay on the weekday before when it can. For a weekend, that is the Friday before.

You can see your past VA payments on VA.gov. For help, call VA at 800-827-1000 (TTY: 711). To learn how the two main VA checks differ, read our VA pension and disability pay guide.

When do food stamps come out?

Food stamps are now called SNAP. Each state sets its own pay days. There is no one date for the whole country.

Most states spread SNAP over several days of the month. Your day may be set by a letter or a number. Here are two real examples:

To find your own day, use the USDA state list. Click your state. That page has a link to your state's benefit schedule. It also lists your state's EBT phone number and website. Use them to check your card balance.

USDA has one more tip. Change your EBT card PIN at least once a month, right before your pay day. This helps stop theft. To learn how SNAP works, read our SNAP guide.

My money didn't come. What now?

First, check the date again. Make sure you are in the right group above.

  1. Direct deposit: SSA says to call your bank first. The bank may be slow to post the money.
  2. Wait a few days: SSA's calendar asks you to allow 3 more mail days before you contact SSA.
  3. Still missing? Call SSA free at 1-800-772-1213. The TTY number is 1-800-325-0778. You can also go to your local Social Security office.

SSA will look at your case. If the payment is due, SSA says it will replace it.

SSA's phone line can also help any time of day. When it asks how it can help, say "check delivery." You can also see your past and coming payments in a my Social Security account online.

Will these payments change in 2027?

The pay days follow the same rules each year. The amount may change if there is a yearly raise. Read our 2027 COLA guide to see how that works.

We check SSA's calendar each month and update this page. Always trust a letter from SSA or VA over any website, including this one.
