BHA says: "BHA is not currently able to accept new applications for the Tenant-Based Program and the waiting list is closed until further notice." No reopening date is given, and BHA says it will not keep a list of people to notify when it reopens — check bostonhousing.org for updates.

BHA's FAQ says: "New applicants may apply to public housing programs, the Project-Based voucher program and the Mod Rehab program." BHA does not give a date, and BHA says wait times "can vary by waiting list and can be over ten years" depending on the development.

BHA's main office is at 52 Chauncy Street and is open Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM; call first, since BHA says its office is undergoing renovations and prefers requests submitted online. Before and after you apply
- Public housing, the Project-Based Voucher program, and Mod Rehab are currently accepting new applicants; the Section 8 tenant-based voucher waiting list is closed until further notice.
- Public housing has two separate application systems: BHA's own online portal for federally/city-funded developments, and a separate state portal for state-funded public housing — apply to both if you want either.
- Respond right away to any letter, email, or call from BHA — BHA says failure to respond to its communications may result in removal from the waiting list.
- Tell BHA immediately if your address, phone number, income, or household changes so you don't miss anything or lose your place.
- You can check your application status any time by calling the Status Information Line at 617-988-3400.
