What does this guide do?
Choose your state to see a guide and next steps. We do not ask for income, ages, or food costs here. Those missing facts matter, so we do not guess a monthly amount or give you a pass or fail.
Who counts in your SNAP household?
SNAP looks at who lives together and buys and makes food together. Some people must be in the same SNAP household even if they eat apart. Tell the office who lives with you, how you are related, and who shares food. A head count alone is not enough.
What should you have ready?
- Proof of income from work and other sources.
- Rent or mortgage costs and utility bills.
- Child care costs needed for work, if you have them.
- Details about age, disability, and savings if the office asks.
Some costs can reduce the income SNAP counts. Rules can also differ by state and household. See the USDA SNAP rules for the full checks.
What should you do next?
