How the estimate works

SNAP amounts are not one flat number. They depend on your state, your income, and how many people eat together in your home. This tool runs your three answers through an open model of the real federal rules and shows the result as a yearly and monthly figure.

It also shows where your income lands against the poverty line. SNAP's gross income test is usually 130% of that line, so the comparison tells you how close you are.

Why your real amount can differ

The SNAP office counts things this tool does not ask about. High rent can raise your amount. Child care costs can raise it. Money in the bank, or certain other income, can lower it or end it. Some states also set their own cut-offs above the federal one. So treat this as a starting point, not a promise.

What to do next

If the estimate looks worth your time, apply through your state — it is free. Our guide SNAP explained covers who can get it, how the EBT card works, and what happens after you apply. For the full picture across many programs at once, the Benefits Estimator checks SNAP, tax credits, cash help, and more in one pass.

These results are numbers, not decisions. We compare what you typed against published figures. That is all a calculator can do.

Only your state's SNAP office can say yes or no. They look at things we did not ask about, so your real answer can differ either way.

It is always free to apply. No real program charges a fee, and nobody can promise you will be approved.
